A seized damper is worth catching, because a part-closed flap restricts exhaust as effectively as a wad of lint, and one stuck open invites insects and nesting material into the last stretch of duct. Where the hardware can be freed, that is part of the visit; where it cannot, we say the hood needs replacing rather than cleaning it and calling it done.

Our Hobe Sound house is a 1960s block ranch with what looks like the original dryer duct. Can it still be cleaned?
Usually. Sidewall runs in those ranches tend to be short, which works in your favor, but the material matters more than the age. If we find a crushed flexible section behind the appliance, or a duct narrower than the dryer outlet feeding it, we clean what is accessible and then show you exactly what is there. What helps us is knowing the approach in advance: a soft or narrow drive, a gate code, or dogs in the yard. Our home sits near the Intracoastal and the vent hood looks corroded. Will cleaning free up the damper?
Sometimes. Salt-laden air is hard on hood louvers, hinge pins and mounting screws, and a damper that has stiffened will not swing fully open or fully closed. Where the hardware can be cleaned and worked loose, we do that as part of the visit. Where corrosion has gone past that point, we will say so plainly and suggest replacing the hood rather than cleaning a part that no longer moves.
Our newer two-story Hobe Sound home has the laundry upstairs and the vent exits through the roof. Is that a harder job?
It is a longer one. A vertical riser to a roof cap gives lint more chances to settle, and anything that does not clear the top tends to fall back and pack the first elbow above the dryer. We work the run from the appliance end and clear the cap when the roof can be reached safely. Pitch, height and weather all factor into that, and we will tell you before we start if the cap cannot be worked that day.
